When to Shampoo a Hair Replacement?

Depending how often you wear your piece as well as the type of products
used for styling and hold.
Just like our own hair you'll know when to cleanse.
Using products not specified for synthetic fibers you will need
to cleanse more often. Non specified types of products
leave a build up on the fibers while causing curl retention to loosen.
When your piece no longer styles nicely

it is time for cleansing. There is no rule of thumb.

Product Types Make a Difference!

As a Hair Stylist speaking from personal

experience I have learned what products work favorably for your replacements.

Synthetic Pieces

Over a period of repeated usage I have discovered
the shine turns dull, the curl weakens or goes straight,
and the hair fibers will look dry and frizzy.
For synthetic fibers Over the counter
hair care products are not recommended.
It is best to purchase special made products for synthetic fibers.
All wig retailers carry these products, however it is best to
purchase the care products from the same company
who made your hair replacements.
They....the company or distributor knows what their synthetic fibers
consists of and they will have the products
that is best suited for their merchandise.

For instance:
When you have a professional perm or hair color put
on your hair, typically you purchase the hair care products
that are compatible with the brand name of the perm or hair
coloring that was used.
The products are designed to compliment the manageability of
chemically treated hair.

Thus:
The same applies for synthetic hair fibers.
The distributors own product brand is designed to
maintain and bring out the best in their hair fibers.

    Cleansing Your Replacement
1. Water temperature should be tepid to cool.
NOT HOT WATER!
2. Put a dab of shampoo in the water.
When put directly on the piece the shampoo is more
difficult to rinse away.
3. Do not Rub the piece as though you were scrubbing a stain.
You will a braise the fibers.
4. Gently Squeeze or simply allow your piece
to soak a few minutes.
5. With clean tepid to cool water,

rinse the lather away.

Drying

6. Remove from rinse water. Do not twist or wring your replacement.

7. Lay down a flat Bath Towel.

8. Place your replacement inside

the towel.

9. Roll the towel over your replacement and

blot the water away.

10. Remove your replacement from the

towel and gently shake.

11. DO NOT BRUSH YOUR PIECE WHILE WET!

This is very important.

The curl will weaken and this will also dull the hair fibers.

12. Condition your replacement with a

Leave In Spay Wig Conditioner.

13. Gently use you fingers and not a comb

or brush while wet to loosen the fibers. Shake!

14. Tangles should not be attempted to be removed

while your hair replacement is wet.

They will loosen while drying

automatically with a good quality and well made replacement.

15. Attachments using Banana Clips,

Jaw Combs or Hair Raiser Combs

can be placed on a flat surface to dry.

Be sure to put a bath towel underneath.

16. A hair piece or wig constructed of
wefts or a stretchable base s
hould not be placed on a Styrofoam head to dry.
This will cause enlarging or stretching of the wefts.
Always place your new wig or hair piece on a

tall narrow glass or a similar item to dry.

When dry then replace your hair replacement or

attachment on the styro-foam head.

Styling

When your new hair piece is made pre-curled you never

need to be concerned about re-styling,

the style is there to stay even after shampooing.

Styling products and hair sprays

are not needed to keep that lovely curl.

I recommend using as little hair spray as possible if any at all.

Hair spray can build up on the hair shaft which may cause it to

dull and loose the curl. You should only use a wig conditioner.

Anything other may remove the curl.

Actually, styling hair replacements is much easier

and more fun than styling our own hair.

They just seem to do anything you want.

Some hair replacements you may need to

have customized re-shaping done before they are just

perfect for your new look.

Types of Brushes for Better Styling Techniques.

Wig Banana Brushes ($4.50) or the Slim 1/2" Wide

Brush ($2.50) are constructed of thin wires in

foam cushion padding for brushing.

These type of brushes slide around and within the hair

fibers without tearing or breaking down the fibers.

Regular hair brushes could tear the fibers and

eventually may cause your piece to look damaged.
